Overview

Competence for global wellness

The Global Nutrition Competence Initiative (GNCI) is a flagship international programme of LiveGreen Academy that strengthens global capacity in nutrition and dietetics through competence assessment, professional development, and advocacy.

GNCI enables individuals and organisations to evaluate, enhance, and apply nutrition-related competencies in alignment with international standards and the UN Sustainable Development Goals — especially Zero Hunger (SDG 2), Good Health and Well-Being (SDG 3), and Quality Education (SDG 4). It provides a structured platform for competence estimation and learning opportunities, helping participants identify where they stand, choose areas for improvement, and access credible educational resources.

Mission and framework

From assessment to impact

To advance global wellness and sustainable development by enabling professionals and institutions in nutrition and dietetics to assess, enhance, and apply their competencies through guided self-assessment, professional education, research, and advocacy. Participants and institutions move through five stages to build evidence-based competence and sustainable nutrition leadership.

  1. Assess

Self- and guided-evaluation questionnaires establish where participants and institutions stand.

  2. Learn

Paid LiveGreen Academy courses and curated free resources target chosen areas for improvement.

  3. Apply

Competencies are put into practice in professional and institutional settings.

  4. Reflect

Growth portfolios and reports capture progress and next priorities.

  5. Impact

Evidence-based competence strengthens nutrition leadership and sustainable outcomes.

Core objectives

Six strands of work

  1. Competence assessment and mapping

Guided and self-assessment tools using globally recognised frameworks (Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, AfN, EFAD, ICDA), with structured reports identifying strengths, gaps, and capacity-building priorities within teams and organisations.

  2. Professional learning and development

Structured short courses, webinars, and learning modules in clinical nutrition, community health, leadership, and sustainability — with Certificates of Completion or Achievement and curated global resources from WHO, FAO, and other leading institutions.

  3. Research and knowledge exchange

Evidence-based practice through conducted and supported research in nutrition competence and education, a dedicated knowledge hub of frameworks and publications, and collaborative networks for data sharing and co-authored studies.

  4. Advocacy and global collaboration

Competence-based education and ethical governance, in partnership with universities, NGOs, and policy networks — building bridges across borders and strengthening education systems in low- and middle-income countries.

  5. Organisational consultancy and development

Curriculum design, team competence mapping, and capacity development strategies that help academic and professional institutions align programmes and workforce competencies with international standards.

  6. Innovation and digital capacity building

Digital tools, e-learning platforms, and AI-based solutions integrated into nutrition training and assessment — enhancing access, efficiency, and scalability with future-ready digital skills.
