Sustainable Living Education Program
The Professional Certificate Series in Sustainable Living, Wellbeing, and Human Ecology is an interdisciplinary educational initiative designed to develop sustainability literacy, wellbeing-oriented competencies, and practical knowledge relevant to contemporary global challenges and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The series integrates evidence-based perspectives from sustainable living, human ecology, management sciences, environmental wellness, housing studies, consumer sciences, and social sustainability to support both personal quality of life and professional competence in sustainability-related fields.
The certificate series has been developed with the recognition that sustainability competence is increasingly valued across education, healthcare, community development, environmental professions, public policy, wellness initiatives, and organizational leadership. The courses are designed to support learners in understanding the relationship between individual choices, environmental systems, social wellbeing, and global sustainability outcomes while promoting practical approaches to sustainable living and responsible citizenship.
Each module consists of approximately 8 contact hours and may be offered as an independent professional development certificate course, continuing education module, workshop series, or institutional training program. The modules are also suitable for adaptation into undergraduate or graduate-level university programs and may be expanded into 3-credit-hour academic courses with additional readings, assignments, discussions, projects, and assessments.
Course evaluation will be conducted through MCQ-based assessments using competency-specific validated items designed to assess learners’ understanding, applied knowledge, and sustainability-related professional competencies.
The series is intended for a broad interdisciplinary audience including educators, healthcare professionals, sustainability practitioners, engineers, architects, environmental professionals, social scientists, development practitioners, community leaders, NGO personnel, students, and individuals interested in sustainability and wellbeing-oriented professional competencies.
The courses are directed and primarily taught by Dr. Rubina Hakeem, home economist, nutrition scientist, educator, researcher, and sustainability advocate with decades of experience in teaching, academic leadership, curriculum development, research supervision, and professional training in the areas of nutrition, family and consumer sciences, sustainable living, human wellbeing, and community development.
